North Korean Ambassador to Cuba, Ma Chol Su, has returned to North Korea
Successor has not been announced
The North Korean Workers’ Party’s newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, announced on the 18th that “Ambassador to Cuba, Ma Chol Su (Special Envoy), paid a farewell visit to Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on the 16th.”
The newspaper reported, “President Miguel asked Ambassador Ma to convey his warm greetings of amity and friendship to General Secretary Kim Jong Un.”
It continued, “He mentioned his visit to our country in November 2018, meeting the respected General Secretary Kim and receiving a warm welcome, and expressed the position of the Cuban party and government to continuously develop the historical tradition and relationship between North Korea and Cuba, building socialism against a common enemy, the U.S.”
The newspaper also mentioned that Ambassador Ma met with Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez but did not disclose specifics.
Meanwhile, this is the first report about Cuba in North Korean media in about a month since the 15th of last month. North Korea has been relatively detailed in reporting news about its brother country, Cuba, but it has not mentioned anything since Cuba established official diplomatic relations with South Korea.
This has led to speculation that North Korea is indirectly expressing dissatisfaction with the established diplomatic relations between the two countries.
