A 12-year-old Chinese girl is causing a local buzz by teaching college-level math problems online.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) recently spotlighted an influencer named ‘Gu’ who tackles college-level math problems on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. With 2.9 million followers, Gu has gained significant popularity on the platform.

According to the report, her videos delve into various math problems, encompassing topics from functions to calculus.

Gu’s extraordinary talent in mathematics was nurtured by her keen interest in the subject from a young age. She initiated her video-sharing journey to illustrate her mathematical methods while exploring diverse learning approaches.

Gu’s mother told the media, “Initially, I suggested that she record videos explaining problems to enhance her understanding of math.”

Gu’s first video in 2022 focused on middle school-level math problems, characterized by her innocent and lively tone.

An increasing number of people are seeking her guidance, and she diligently records her problem-solving process in 3 to 5-minute videos daily.

One viewer remarked, “Problems that used to puzzle me in high school are crystal clear after watching her videos.”

A college student jokingly mentioned, “I find myself depending on a 12-year-old to explain math to me.”

In elementary school, Gu is considering joining the International Mathematical Olympiad, a renowned math competition usually for college students.

Her arrival has stirred debates online within China. A netizen doubted her abilities, commenting, “Geniuses are once in a century,” and suggesting, “There must be a team backing her.”

Conversely, a netizen lauding Gu’s problem-solving skills stated, “If she couldn’t comprehend these mathematical concepts herself, she wouldn’t be able to articulate them.”
