On the 16th, according to the police, the Gyeongju Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province is currently investigating a man in his 90s on suspicion of spraying a gas gun at a monk.

He is accused of spraying the face of a monk who is in his 70s with a self-defense gas gun at a temple in Angang-eup, Gyeongju-si at approximately 12:49 p.m. the previous day.

The gas gun contained a substance suspected to be pepper spray, and the monk showed symptoms of vomiting and was taken to the hospital. He is currently under treatment after being discharged.

According to the police investigation, the guy who sprayed the gun was a former follower at the temple, and he had a bad relationship with the monk due to a personal issue.

Although the monk expressed to the police that he does not want the man to be punished, if the police determine his charges as an assault with injury, which does not fall under the category of crimes that can be dropped at the victim’s discretion, the investigation will proceed.

A police official stated, “We plan to decide what charges to apply after investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.”
