South Korea, China Talks Coincide with Putin’s North Korea Move

Daniel Kim Views

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially announced the South Korea-China diplomatic and security summit on the 17th. This summit is one of the joint agreements President Yoon and Chinese Premier Li Qiang made during their bilateral meeting last month. It will be the first security talk between Korea and China since 2015.

The security summit between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Korea and China will be held in Seoul on the 18th.

The South Korean delegation is led by First Vice Foreign Minister  Kim Hong Kyun, with Lee Seung Beom, director general for international policy at the South Korean Defense Ministry.

Foreign Vice Minister Sun Wei Dong, the senior representative and Deputy Director of the Office for International Military Cooperation of the Central Military Commission Zhang Baoqun, will lead the Chinese delegation.

The date for the summit was announced in advance as President Vladimir Putin plans to visit North Korea on the same day. While North Korea and Russia plan to strengthen military cooperation in Pyongyang, Korea and China will discuss security cooperation in Seoul.
