North Korea continues to experience unusual temperatures, with frequent heavy rains accompanying the ongoing heatwave.
The State Hydro-Meteorological Administration, North Korea’s national meteorological service, forecasts, “Starting from the 10th, the rain will fall intermittently in parts of North Pyongan Province and along the east coast. Then, on the 11th and 12th, there will be rain and showers in various regions on the east and west coast, specifically heavy rainfall such as downpours in certain areas of North Pyongan Province.”
The forecast also highlighted that heatwave conditions are expected in several areas of the central and southern regions and North Pyongan and Chagang Provinces on the 9th. Also, strong winds exceeding approximately 223 mph are predicted for some areas along the west coast on the 11th.
Regarding the high temperatures, authorities advised that water management in rice paddy fields should go beyond traditional methods. They recommended using techniques such as saturation irrigation or simple water retention to prevent rice roots from rotting or becoming inactive.
The Rodong Sinmun added, “Special attention to prevent waterlogging is needed as the soil is over-hydrated due to the frequent rains and the lush growth of crops.”
