The state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday that the leader, Kim Jong Un, had visited the control room of the uranium enrichment facility the day before. During his visit, Kim reviewed the facility’s operational status and expressed high satisfaction with the ongoing production of nuclear materials.
Kim remarked, “Just being here gives me strength,” underscoring the need for further progress. He stated, “Without conceit on current achievement, we need to strengthen the foundation for producing weapons-grade nuclear materials by increasing the number of centrifuges, improving their separation capabilities, and pushing forward the plan to deploy new types of centrifuges in the final stage of development.”
The newspaper also published photos of the uranium enrichment facility. Until now, U.S. and South Korean intelligence agencies had only speculated about the existence of a uranium enrichment facility near Pyongyang, but there had been no visual confirmation. The facility processes uranium in centrifuges, spinning it at high speeds to produce highly enriched uranium, which is crucial for developing nuclear warheads.
