On Tuesday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un conducted an on-site inspection of a regional industry factory under construction in Songchon County, South Phyongan Province.

According to a report by the state-run newspaper Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday, while looking around the construction site, Kim expressed great satisfaction over the fact that sure successes in carrying out its confirmation and the validity and prospect of the Party’s line and policy to achieve simultaneous, balanced, and rapid development across the country have been proved in practice.

Rodong Sinmun reported that Kim assessed the production quality of locally manufactured machinery and equipment, the assembly process, construction progress, raw material preparation, and the training of skilled workers. He also guided the management and future development of local industrial plants.

Kim emphasized that during the December 2024 Plenary Meeting of the Party Central Committee, they must accurately evaluate the first year’s progress of the Regional Development 20×10 Policy, which holds significant importance for North Korea’s socialist system, and responsibly expand on the achievements and experiences gained.

The leader also addressed critical prerequisites for advancing the extensive construction projects, proposing that the Party Central Committee discuss and decide on necessary national measures for implementation.

With year-end approaching, Kim stressed the importance of successfully completing the construction of 20 local industrial plants in various cities and counties that have made progress this year and preparing the 2025 local construction plan.

Kim was accompanied by key officials from the Party Central Committee during this inspection. Local Party, administrative leaders, and military commanders involved in the construction projects greeted him at the site.

Kim’s remarks suggest that some local industrial plant constructions may face challenges near their year-end completion deadline.

North Korea held its first groundbreaking ceremony for the regional-industry factories under construction in Songchon County, South Phyongan Province, on February 28th, with Kim in attendance.
