North Korean leader Kim Jong Un participated in the opening ceremony of a local industrial factory in Jaryeong County, underscoring the pursuit of the local development “20×10 Policy” for the new year, according to reports from state-run Rodong Sinmun on Wednesday. The policy aims to establish industrial facilities in 20 regions nationwide, with the Jaryeong County facility following a similar facility inaugurated in Seongcheon County last year.
The ceremony on Tuesday brought together high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Park Tae Sung, along with party and government officials, soldiers involved in the construction, workers from the local industrial factory, and local officials and workers from South Hwanghae Province and Jaryeong County.
According to the Korean Central News Agency, Kim attended the opening ceremony on Wednesday. This marks the beginning of 2025 as a significant year of transition for the comprehensive development of socialism.
During the ceremony, Kim declared, “The consecutive opening ceremonies for local industrial factories in 20 cities and counties, including Seongcheon and Jaryeong, bring great joy to our people as we embark on a rewarding journey in the new year.” He added, “My determination to do more work for the people has grown even stronger.”
He emphasized that party and government agencies at the city and county levels must consistently ensure the necessary conditions for normalizing production at local industrial factories. This includes addressing raw material issues and training skilled workers. Kim stressed that the regional development policy should tangibly enhance residents’ material well-being.
Furthermore, Kim called for higher standards and long-term economic sustainability for 2025. He described the year as an opportunity for “another leap forward” in the country’s industrial and economic development efforts.
Rodong Sinmun noted that Kim provided guidance on the principles and methods for consistently managing local factories’ operations and product production while reviewing pilot-produced items. He also discussed a series of measures with accompanying leaders to ensure that the party and government continuously drive and strongly support the prospective development of local industries.
Ju Chang Il, head of the Party Central Committee’s Propaganda and Agitation Department, declared at the site, “Today’s grand opening not only showcases the proud achievements of the local industrial revolution but also serves as a launching pad for new endeavors that must advance further and reach greater heights.”
Meanwhile, as of Wednesday, which is believed to be Kim Jong Un’s birthday, North Korean media had not reported any related news. The Rodong Sinmun continued its usual coverage, including a reply sent by the President of Laos to Kim and news about the Jaryeong County opening ceremony.
While North Korea officially commemorates the birthdays of Kim Il Sung (April 15, “Day of the Sun”) and Kim Jong Il (February 16, “Day of the Shining Start) with public celebrations, Kim’s birthday remains unacknowledged in any formal capacity.
