Lucid Motors Unveils its Large Electric SUV, Gravity
With an Impressive 710km Range
Recently, numerous brands have launched a variety of electric vehicles. The competition has intensified due to an oversupply, with some brands even offering significant discounts to attract customers. Meanwhile, Lucid Motors, which has emerged as a formidable competitor to Tesla in the U.S., has recently unveiled a new model, creating a buzz.
The highly anticipated large SUV, Gravity, has shocked the majority with its unveiling. According to them, Gravity’s overwhelming high performance and revamped style are more than enough to surprise everyone. Let’s discover what Gravity will look like at its launch.
Lucid Motors’ Large SUV, Gravity
Draws Attention with its Aerodynamic Design
Lucid Motors, a U.S. electric vehicle startup, unveiled its first SUV, Gravity, at the LA Auto Show on November 17th. Gravity is a premium, sizeable electric SUV that seats up to seven people and follows the existing ‘Air’ model. Options for 5 to 7 seats are available, and while the specific specifications will not be finalized until next year, it appears to adopt a four-wheel-drive platform.
The vehicle’s outstanding feature is its aerodynamic design, which has achieved a drag coefficient of 0.24Cd, a top-level figure for its class. In addition, Gravity plans to release nine exterior colors and three interior colors. Customers can choose the interior leather from vegan or Nappa leather options in line with its eco-friendly nature.
Spacious Interior, New Driver’s Seat Specifications
Gravity is not notably long. However, the interior space is very generous thanks to its small electric motor and low central battery pack. Gravity features a longer wheelbase than Air and the battery that Air positions under the rear seats has moved under the front seats in Gravity. These changes create a comfortable and spacious space in all three rows, and folding the seats reportedly increases the trunk capacity to up to 3,171L.
Inside, a 34-inch OLED curved display floats above the steering wheel. The uniquely designed steering wheel features thumb-operable swipe controls. Lucid powers its various features with the newly developed UX 3.0 operating system. It also supports active noise cancellation, high-resolution LiDAR, cameras, and the latest ADAS that operates through these.
Specific Information Yet to be Released, Expected High Performance
Unfortunately, specific information about Gravity’s battery capacity and powertrain has not yet been released. However, Lucid says the highest-performing model can travel up to 708km (440 miles) on a single charge. Furthermore, with a 900V voltage system, it is possible to travel up to a maximum of 322km with just a 15-minute charge. The zero-to-sixty (0 to 100km/h) time is a mere 3.5 seconds.
Additionally, Gravity’s newly designed air suspension automatically adjusts the shock levels according to the driving conditions and terrain, providing optimal ride comfort and even supporting zero-gravity mode. The maximum towing capacity is 2,722kg (6,000 pounds), and the load capacity reaches a maximum of 680kg (1,500 pounds). Gravity is expected to be launched in the second half of 2024, with prices starting at $80,000.
