Russia Urges Caution as Iran-Israel Conflict Escalates

Daniel Kim Views

Russia is worried about the ongoing tension in the Middle East.

On the 13th (local time), Russia expressed extreme concern about Israel’s airstrikes on Iran and urged all parties involved to exercise restraint.

In its statement on Iran’s attack on Israel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said, “We express extreme concern about the possibility of further escalation of danger in this region” and “urge all related parties to exercise restraint.”

The Ministry also stated, “We have repeatedly warned that the numerous unresolved crises in the Middle East, centered around the conflict area between Palestine and Israel, which are often provoked by irresponsible actions, will lead to an escalation of tension.”

Russia, which has a close relationship with Iran, announced that Western nations blocked attempts within the UN Security Council to respond to Israel’s consulate attack.

On the other hand, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev mentioned that a war between Israel and Iran would worsen the prospects for President Joe Biden’s re-election in the United States.

In a post on social media, Medvedev said, “The United States does not want a big war in the Middle East,” and “the killings in Gaza will worsen Biden’s electoral prospects, and a war between Israel and Iran will lead to additional uncertainty.”
