Lexus Teams Up with China’s RoboSense for LiDAR in Electric Models

globalautonews Views

Lexus plans to incorporate products from RoboSense, China’s largest LiDAR company, into several of its electric vehicles, as reported by CnEVpost on July 10. The outlet also suggested that the partnership may extend to other Toyota brands. However, whether the application will be exclusive to the Chinese market or be featured in global models is unclear.

In its Q1 financial report, RoboSense announced it had secured a supply partnership contract with Toyota, the world’s largest automobile manufacturer, covering 2021 to 2022.

For the first half of 2024, RoboSense reported a 415.7% increase in LiDAR sales compared to the previous year, approaching the 256,000 units sold annually in 2023. Specifically, automotive LiDAR sales surged by 490% in the first half, reaching 234,500 units and accounting for 96% of total sales. RoboSense captured a 43% share of the Chinese LiDAR market from January to May.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg reported in late June that Toyota Motor plans to build a Lexus electric car factory in Shanghai through its independent investment.

RoboSense boasts a large customer base, including BYD, SAIC, and Geely Auto.
