Morgan Stanley has taken an optimistic stance on the banking sector, promoting a notable number of employees to managing director positions.
The company announced on Wednesday that it had elevated 173 employees to managing director this year, a 12% increase over the previous year.
This year’s promotions follow last year’s advancement of 155 employees to the managing director level, a decline from the 184 promotions in 2023.
Morgan Stanley exceeded earnings expectations for the third quarter in October, driven by strong performance in its investment banking division. The firm will release its fourth-quarter results next week.
The banking industry anticipates a more favorable regulatory environment under a potential future Trump administration, alongside expectations that interest rate cuts will boost deal-making activity.
In December, Bank of America similarly increased its managing director promotions as major U.S. banks prepare for a potential rise in mergers and initial public offerings.
Morgan Stanley’s stock performed exceptionally well last year, rising 35% and outperforming the broader U.S. stock market.
