A Genesis G80 commercial from Hyundai Motor Company has been recognized as one of the most memorable ads in Super Bowl history.

Advertising agency Innocean announced last week that the Genesis commercial “First Date,” produced by its U.S. subsidiary in 2016, has been included in the “Top 10 Most Memorable Super Bowl Ads of the Last Decade.”
According to a survey of 1,000 U.S. residents conducted by consulting firms VCCP and Kauri Consulting, Hyundai’s Genesis ad ranked fourth, trailing only Budweiser, Doritos, and Heinz. In particular, Hyundai is the only car brand advertisement in the top 10, which is significant.
The Super Bowl draws over 100 million viewers annually. It is a crucial advertising platform on which global companies vie for attention.
In 2016, the “First Date” commercial humorously described the Genesis G80’s vehicle tracking feature. Kevin Hart, the well-known comedian, portrayed an overly protective father and made people laugh by jokingly enacting the scene in which he spies on his daughter’s first date. Naturally, this advertisement showcased the G80’s cutting-edge features and told a humorous tale. It received a great response.
At its release, the “First Date” commercial ranked first in preference among 63 Super Bowl ads, generating a huge impact. It was a rare feat for a non-American automotive brand to garner such acclaim during the Super Bowl.
Since creating the first Super Bowl commercial among South Korean advertising firms in 2010, Innocean has remained unique. With its Kia ad, it won the Super Bowl ad preference in 2017. Hyundai and Kia ads came in second and eighth, respectively, in 2020. The ‘Perfect 10’ ad for Kia’s electric SUV EV9 came first among automakers and third overall in 2023.
Lee Yong Woo, CEO of Innocean, stated, “Exceptional ads leave a lasting impression on consumers.” He added, “We will continue to deliver distinctive, world-class creativity in the global market.”
