BMW has introduced the new X3 Long Wheelbase, which was explicitly designed for the Chinese market. This latest model features an extended body compared to the standard X3.

The new X3 Long Wheelbase is based on the global X3 redesign, but it has an extended length and wheelbase to maximize interior space. Its wheelbase extends to 2,975mm, 110mm longer than the global X3. This matches the BMW X5 and offers space comparable to a full-size SUV.

Notably, its wheelbase is 5mm longer than Hyundai’s flagship Palisade SUV, providing additional interior space. The second-row legroom has expanded by 96mm compared to the standard X3, and the enlarged rear doors enhance ease of entry and exit.

BMW has tailored the interior design to Chinese consumers’ preferences, incorporating gold-colored accents to enhance its luxury appeal.

Advanced Technology and Performance

The new X3 Long Wheelbase adopts BMW’s latest design elements, including the “Iconic Glow” illuminated kidney grille. It has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an all-wheel-drive system. The base xDrive 25L variant delivers 190 horsepower and 310Nm (31.6kg·m) of torque, while the more powerful xDrive 30L produces 258 horsepower and 400Nm (40.7kg·m) of torque. The 0-100 km/h acceleration times differ, with the xDrive 25L taking 8.7 seconds and the xDrive 30L achieving it in 6.5 seconds.

Pricing for the X3 Long Wheelbase starts at 349,900 CNY (approximately $48,300), positioning it competitively within its segment.

BMW Strengthens Its Presence in China

The BMW X3 has already established a strong foothold in China. In 2023, 156,000 units were sold, accounting for 40% of BMW’s X-series sales in the country.

To build on this success, BMW introduced the Long Wheelbase variant to expand its influence in the Chinese market. Local production enhances cost efficiency and allows BMW to maintain competitive pricing while offering a premium experience. Although BMW developed it for China, the new X3 Long Wheelbase also attracted global attention.

With its spacious interior, cutting-edge technology, and modern design, the X3 Long Wheelbase is expected to generate significant interest in the SUV market.
