A man who married due to a premarital pregnancy has revealed that he annulled his marriage after a paternity test showed the child was not his. He stated that the biological father was his wife’s coworker.

A post titled “Guys, paternity test is a must” was posted on Blind, an anonymous community for office workers, on Children’s Day, May 5th.

The author, an employee of a well-known fashion company, stated below: “I had a strange feeling that day. I was feeding the baby powdered milk alone on a weekend afternoon. I casually observed the baby’s eyes, nose, and mouth. Suddenly, I realized. The baby didn’t resemble me at all. That’s when I knew. The baby wasn’t mine.” He shared part of the documents showing the results of the paternity and annulment lawsuits.

In response to the question ‘Whose child was it?’, the author said, “A coworker.” To the question ‘Did your affection for the child fade immediately?’, he replied, “I still care about the baby sometimes because I understand the child is innocent and hope that child could be happy.”

When asked how long it took to finalize the marriage after finding out, he revealed, “It took six months for the paternity lawsuit, a year and a half for the annulment, and two years to receive alimony.”

In response to a comment saying, “Can’t you ruin her life? It’s too unfair for the man just to let this go”, he replied, “I thought about all sorts of ways, but there’s no way in Korean society.”

Netizens responded with comments like “I can’t even imagine what that must have felt like”, “It must have been heartbreaking”, and “You’ve been through a lot, I hope you only have happy things in your future.” Some netizens even suggested that everyone should get a paternity test after birth. Comments such as “It costs $180, and you can get the results privately without your spouse knowing” were posted.

There were also some suspicious comments. One netizen asked, “Where did you get the paternity test? There are so many options to choose from, and I’m not sure where to go. Would you recommend one to me?” implying that they are in a similar situation. There are three ways to end a marriage: divorce, annulment, and cancellation of marriage. Divorce refers to the intentional dissolution of a marriage through mutual agreement or trial. Annulment refers to making a marriage null and void as if it never happened. Cancellation of marriage refers to canceling a legal marriage for reasons that existed or occurred before the marriage.

If one party was unaware of a significant reason preventing them from continuing their marital life at the time of marriage, they could file for cancellation if they expressed their intention to marry due to fraud or coercion. The marriage’s cancellation record is recorded in the marriage certificate, just as the divorce record. The only way to delete the record is to receive a judgment of annulment.
