The Chinese government has imposed stricter controls on Hollywood film imports.

This move targets one of America’s most iconic exports as trade tensions escalate.

China imposed immediate restrictions on Hollywood film imports in response to President Donald Trump’s tariff increases on Chinese goods.

A spokesperson for China’s National Film Administration said the U.S. government’s misguided tariffs would reduce domestic demand for American films. The agency would follow market principles, respect viewer preferences, and cut the number of U.S. film imports.

These measures could cause serious setbacks for major American studios and entertainment companies in the Chinese market.

IMAX could face a major risk, as 45% of its screens are in China, which generates 23% of its revenue.

The Walt Disney Company and Warner Bros. Discovery may also face financial strain.

Warner Bros.’s stock has dropped 21.80% over the past month.

China’s latest restrictions are part of a broader response to the U.S., including higher tariffs on American goods and complaints to the World Trade Organization.

Even before the new regulations, Hollywood faced challenges in China as audiences favored local content.
