[TV Report=Reporter Kim Hyeon-jun] The story of the film ‘Avatar’ is far from its ending.
On the 12th (local time), the American media outlet ‘People’ released an interview with James Cameron, the director of ‘Avatar’.
Director Cameron stated, “The filming of Avatar 3 is progressing smoothly.” He further revealed, “We have produced real-life pictures mixed with ‘Avatar 2: The Way of Water’ and ‘Avatar3’, and all the characters will attempt new challenges in ‘Avatar4’, we have also partially started filming for ‘Avatar4’.”
Regarding ‘Avatar4’, which is scheduled to be released in 2029, he said, “We will start full-scale shooting after the release of ‘Avatar 3’.”
He also recalled the production process of ‘Avatar3’, saying, “In fact, the third filming process is much simpler (from a production standpoint) than the second one,” recalling the situation where production was halted due to COVID-19 during the production of ‘Avatar 2’. He described the struggle to complete the work as a “battle.”
He announced that actress Kate Winslet will return as ‘Ronel’, and mentioned that Winslet has been studying shamanic rituals while attending school for the film. Director Cameron raised expectations by saying, “Her (Winslet’s) performance of a purification ritual to revive Kiri (played by Sigourney Weaver) in the film, and part of what she will do in ‘Avatar’3, is based on real practice.”
Meanwhile, ‘Avatar3’ is expected to continue the story of the second installment, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, but the specific storyline has not been revealed.
‘Avatar’, released in 2009, earned $2.92 billion (about 3.78 trillion KRW), claiming the top spot in the all-time global box office. The sequel, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, which was released in 2022, earned $2.82 billion (about 3.65 trillion KRW), claiming the second spot in the all-time global box office.
We determine with hope that ‘Avatar3’, set to be released in 2025, will follow suit.
