Former professional baseball player Oh Jae Won has been sent to the prosecutors on charges of drug use and assaulting a woman.

On the 29th, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced, “Oh Jae Won has been sent to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (stimulants) and assault.” Oh Jae Won came under investigation for drug charges following a report from a woman he was with on the 10th. Although the initial drug test came back negative, further clues led to the issuance of an arrest warrant, and he was urgently arrested on the 19th.

As a result of the police’s additional investigation, it was revealed that Oh had used methamphetamine and had habitually taken sleeping pills such as Stilnox, which he had others obtain by prescription. Furthermore, charges were also applied for the assault on the woman who reported him.

Exiting the police station detention center at approximately 8:05 AM, wearing a hat and mask to cover his face, Oh Jae Won did not respond to questions from the press and boarded a transport vehicle.

Meanwhile, Oh Jae Won was a one-club man for the Doosan Bears, joining in 2003 and playing until 2022. He appeared in 1,571 games, with a batting average of 0.267, an OPS of 0.712, 64 home runs, and 521 RBIs. He significantly contributed to Doosan’s Korean Series championships in 2015, 2016, and 2019.
