Winter underwent surgery for pneumothorax at a renowned large hospital in Seoul on the 11th and is currently recovering, TenAsia reported on the 12th.

It was reported that Winter fulfilled her schedule in Japan before the pneumothorax surgery. Aespa departed for Japan on the 6th. They later appeared on the popular Japanese music program Venue 101.

aespa, which includes Winter, is set to return in May and embark on a world tour starting in June. Pneumothorax surgery typically requires a 2-3 day hospitalization. Full recovery is expected to take another month or two.

An entertainment industry insider said today, “While we need to monitor Winter’s recovery, it is anticipated that she will be able to participate in her return activities and the world tour schedule without any issues.”

Previously, aespa, a four-member girl group under SM Entertainment, debuted on November 17, 2020. In their second year, 2021, they won three major awards with the great success of “Next Level” and “Savage,” establishing themselves as top-tier idols.

Meanwhile, pneumothorax is a condition in which a hole forms on the surface of the lung due to various reasons, such as tuberculosis destruction or trauma, allowing air or gas to enter the pleural cavity (thoracic cavity). Normally, the pressure inside the thoracic cavity is slightly lower than atmospheric pressure. However, when pneumothorax occurs, the pressure inside the thoracic cavity rises to atmospheric levels, pressing on the lungs and impairing their movement, ultimately decreasing respiratory and oxygen exchange functions.

Winter from aespa attended the photo call event for Gucci’s 2024 Cruise show at the entrance of Geunjeongjeon Hall, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Jongno District, Seoul, on May 16 last year. / News1
