Pop star Taylor Swift has rewritten pop history with her new album, released after a two-year hiatus.
According to Billboard in the U.S. on the 29th (local time), all 14 tracks from The Tortured Poets Department, released by Swift on the 19th, have claimed spots 1 through 14 on this week’s Billboard main singles chart Hot 100.
Swift set an unprecedented record in pop history by sweeping the top 10 spots on the Hot 100 with her previous album, “Midnights.” She has once again surpassed expectations.
Swift set a record for the most wins ever at the Grammy Awards in February with “Midnights,” taking home “Album of the Year” for the fourth time. Now, she aims to surpass her record at next year’s Grammys.
In 2022, “Midnights” was the best-selling album. It set numerous records, including the most streamed album on Spotify and Apple Inc. Music in a day, and the most streamed pop album on its release. Now, her latest album is breaking all these records.
On Spotify alone, it surpassed 300 million streams on its first release day. Swift has now achieved her 14th number-one album on the Billboard 200, adding 13 number-ones (including re-recorded albums).
In Billboard’s 70-year history, rappers Jay-Z and Swift are the only solo artists with 14 number-one albums.
The Beatles hold the record with 19 number-one albums if you include bands and groups. Swift also holds the record for the most songs by a female artist to reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, with 59 songs. She also set a record as the female artist with the most songs on the Hot 100 chart weekly, including tracks from previous albums, totaling 32 songs.
This week’s number one song, “Fortnight,” is Swift’s 12th song on the Billboard Hot 100.
Swift expressed her surprise and joy at these accomplishments.
The previous day, Swift posted on X, “2.6 million (album sales), ARE YOU SERIOUS??” She expressed gratitude, “Thank you for listening to and streaming The Tortured Poets and welcoming it into your lives. I’m completely overwhelmed.”
