RM from BTS teamed up with director Lee Sung Jin of Beef, an eight-time Emmy Awards winner. Director Lee directed the music video for RM’s pre-released track “Come Back to Me” from his second solo album, which will be announced at 11 PM on the 10th. The collaboration of the most spotlighted director in the U.S. and a symbol of K-pop is gaining much attention for what kind of work they will produce together.
RM’s agency, Big Hit Music, announced the pre-release schedule for “Come Back to Me” on the 7th and said, “Korean-American director Lee Sung Jin of Beef, who swept the American film awards, has directed, produced, and written the script for the music video.”
Director Lee was the star who gained worldwide attention by winning in eight categories, including A Best Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards held on January 16th. The Emmys Award is the world’s most prestigious award targeting TV series.
Beef was released last year as an original Netflix series. It tells the story of a young Korean immigrant (Steven Yeun) who argues with a successful Chinese businesswoman (Ali Wong) while driving. Based on the stories of immigrants who settled in the United States, it is a masterpiece that tells the story of the anger infringing on society today. It has been recognized for its artistic value by winning eight Emmy Awards.
Director Lee Sung Jin is currently considered the most notable director in the United States, thanks to the success of Beef. This is why many people are interested in the kind of story he will tell by directing RM’s music video and collaborating with a K-pop singer for the first time.
RM’s “Come Back to Me” encapsulates the concerns of what’s right and wrong, which is the central theme of his second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person. RM wrote the lyrics, and Oh Hyuk from the band Hyukoh produced the song.
The same message RM wants to introduce is expected to be reflected in the music video. RM also starred in the music video himself. Kim Min Ha, the main character of the AppleTV+ original series Pachinko, appeared in a music video with RM. In addition, Art Director Ryu Seong Hie, who worked on the films Assassination and Decision to Leave, and cinematographer Kim Woo Hyun of the movies 1987 and Late Autumn, enhanced the completeness of the music video.
Big Hit Music said, “In his first solo album, Indigo, released in 2022, RM presented collaborations that transcended the boundaries of music and art. In this album, released after a year and five months, he also shows collaborations that break down the boundaries of art.”
RM will pre-release “Come Back to Me” on the 10th and release his second album, Right Place, Wrong Person, which contains 11 songs, on the 24th of this month.
