An unfortunate incident amid a busy journey
A player has been sidelined after injuring his ankle while celebrating a successful bunt.
The unfortunate player is Seo Ho-chul, the starting third baseman for the NC Dinos.
According to Sports Chosun and Sports Donga reports on the 10th, Seo Ho-chul has been excluded from the first-team entry due to an ankle injury. Before the game against Hanwha, NC removed Seo Ho-chul from the first team and registered infielder Park Joo-chan.
NC manager Kang In-kwon explained, “He injured his ankle while celebrating a successful sacrifice bunt during yesterday’s (9th) game. His ankle condition worsened during the recovery process.” Manager Kang added, “It’s regrettable to have an injured player ahead of an important game.”
Although it doesn’t seem to be a serious injury that would hinder his career, Seo Ho-chul may likely find it difficult to play the remaining regular season games.
Previously, during the game against the Doosan Bears at Changwon NC Park on September 24th, Seo Ho-chul was hit in the head. In the bottom of the 8th inning, with one out and a runner on first, Seo Ho-chul collapsed after being hit in the helmet by a 145km (90 mph) fastball thrown by Doosan right-handed reliever Kim Kang-ryul. Seo Ho-chul briefly collapsed due to the shock, which caused bleeding from his nose, but he got up on his own and got into an ambulance, drawing attention.
The NC team announced, “Seo Ho-chul received a diagnosis of a fractured nose from a specialist,” but also clarified, “He was diagnosed as not needing surgery.”
Despite the fracture, Seo Ho-chul showed his resilience by continuing to play. Still, the ankle injury he sustained during a celebration has made it difficult for him to complete the season.
