A police officer on active duty was urgently arrested on suspicion of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars seized during a gambling raid.

The Violent Crime Investigation Team of the Jeollanam-do Provincial Police Agency announced on the 19th that it is investigating Officer A from Wando Police Station, who was urgently arrested on such charges.

The amount Officer A embezzled reached a total of 26 million won (approximately $22,000) in six instances.

The police are considering whether to apply charges of theft or embezzlement in the course of duty against Officer A.

Cash secured during the crackdown on the gambling site should be stored in the police station’s evidence locker after being listed in the seizure list.

The police became suspicious that the gambling case Officer A had cracked down on was not sent to the prosecutor’s office for a long time and started an investigation following this lead.

The police plan to review whether to apply for an arrest warrant for Officer A after accurately understanding the circumstances of the case.
