News1 reported on the 25th about the criminal activities of a man in his early 40s, Mr. Lee, who was recently indicted for detention on charges of Specific Economic Crime Aggravated Punishment Act (fraud).

According to the media, Mr. Lee, who deceived people into believing he was a professional worker such as a doctor, lawyer, etc., embezzled money amounting from tens of millions of won to as much as 900 million won ($756,000) under the pretext of investment funds on several occasions. The number of victims confirmed so far exceeds ten.

One of Mr. Lee’s typical fraud methods was a stock reading room. He approached the victims in the reading room, saying he would invest in unlisted companies, and embezzled their money. Initially, he settled some of the promised profits to win the victims’ trust.

After a certain period, the victims could not receive even their original investment, let alone profits, and eventually filed a lawsuit against Mr. Lee.

Mr. Lee also committed marriage fraud against female victims.

Mr. Lee approached a female victim in her 60s, Ms. A, showing her a false bank statement and acting as if he would marry her daughter. In this process, Mr. Lee, hiding the fact that he was married, embezzled 560 million won ($470,400) from Ms. A.

Ms. A later discovered that Mr. Lee, who had pretended to be a doctor, had five legal children. He even hired part-timers as his parents at the engagement ceremony, deceiving the victim.

Mr. Lee is also accused of forging official documents by handing over a false real estate certificate to another victim, Mr. B, promising to repay the borrowed money with real estate.

The Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul, which has been investigating this case since last year, sent Mr. Lee to the prosecution last February. The first trial will be held at the Seoul Southern District Court on the 7th of next month.
