Serial Drunk Driver, Aged 70s, Causes Accident, Flees, and Loses Vehicle

wikitree Views

Drove without a license, intoxicated, caused an accident, and fled.
Repeated offenses during probation led to vehicle confiscation.

A man in his 70s, who fled after causing a car accident while drunk and unlicensed during his probation period, had his vehicle confiscated by the police.

Drunk Driving Checkpoint / Yonhap News

According to the Cheongyang Police Station in South Chungcheong Province on the 30th, Mr. A hit two parked cars while drunk driving in Eupnaeri, Cheongyang-eup, around 6:30 p.m. on the 3rd and was caught by the police at home after fleeing about 7.5 miles.

At the time, Mr. A’s blood alcohol level was 0.123%, which is enough to revoke a license.

Mr. A was found to have previous convictions of drunk driving four times and unlicensed driving twice.

Mr. A, who was sentenced to six months in prison and two years of probation after being caught driving without a license in June last year, was found to have re-offended during his probation period.

The police, seeing a high risk of recidivism, obtained a seizure warrant from the court and confiscated Mr. A’s one-ton vehicle.

This is the second measure following the confiscation of a vehicle of a man in his 20s who was caught drunk driving three times in South Chungcheong Province last August.

The police plan to send Mr. A to the prosecutor’s office soon on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (unlicensed and drunk driving).
