The Chinese Tsingtao Beer, which stirred controversy with the so-called ‘urination video,’ announced on the 1st that the worker responsible for the incident had been detained by public security authorities and that they would strengthen the supervision of the workplace.

According to Reuters, Tsingtao Beer made this announcement in a statement, admitting, “This incident has exposed flaws in our raw material transportation management.”

Tsingtao Beer stated, “All raw material vehicles will be sealed so that employees cannot come into contact with the raw materials,” and added, “We have comprehensively strengthened internal management and taken measures.”

They added, “We will strengthen the management of outsourced manpower and enhance factory monitoring using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) motion recognition system.”

Previously, on the 19th of last month, a video was released on Chinese social media showing a man, wearing a helmet and work clothes, appearing to urinate in a malt storage area at the Tsingtao Factory No. 3 in Pingdu City, Shandong Province.

The video showed him climbing over a shoulder-high fence that was exposed on all sides, entering the area where the raw materials were piled up, looking around, and urinating.

When the video was released, netizens were shocked and demanded severe punishment for those involved.

Tsingtao Beer had previously stated that the worker in the video was not a regular employee but a subcontracted worker and that the place of urination was not inside the factory but outdoors, like the cargo area of a malt transport vehicle.

After the urination video, Tsingtao Beer’s stock price plummeted, reducing the company’s market capitalization by about 300 billion won ($254 million) over two days, the 23rd and 24th of last month.
