An Ambulance Carrying a Brain Hemorrhage Patient
Deliberately Blocked by a Truck
Sparks Outrage Among Netizens

While driving, we occasionally encounter emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks that race down the road with sirens blaring. What should we do when we meet these vehicles on the street? While the answer may vary slightly depending on the road conditions, the appropriate action is to move to the side to allow these emergency vehicles to pass. Most drivers are likely already aware of this.

However, recently, a truck that seemed to be deliberately blocking the path of an ambulance has been caught on camera, causing a major uproar among netizens. What’s worse, it turned out that the ambulance was transporting a critically ill brain hemorrhage patient, which made everyone feel even more regretful. Let’s take a closer look at the unfortunate incident that should not have happened on the road that day.

An Ambulance Racing Down the Road with Sirens Blaring
Most Vehicles Made Way

On the 8th, a report video was posted on the ‘Han Moon Chul TV’ YouTube channel. The reported video was from the ambulance’s dashcam, and at the time, the vehicle was confirmed to be transporting a brain hemorrhage patient to the hospital. Surrounding cars began to move to the side to make way for the ambulance racing down the road with its sirens blaring. The problem was the truck that was driving ahead. The ambulance moved behind the truck, which continued to drive without yielding to the ambulance’s siren. The increasingly desperate ambulance even started honking its horn, but it was to no avail. Eventually, the ambulance had to request the truck to move aside over the broadcast. At that point, the truck began to behave in a way that defied common sense.

The Truck that Refused to Yield
Even Appeared to Be Deliberately Blocking the Way

The ambulance, which had requested the truck to make its way over the broadcast, saw the truck appearing to move toward the center. Instead of moving to the side to make way, it deliberately blocked the ambulance’s path. In the end, the ambulance had to escape through a gap that appeared in the nick of time.

The paramedic who was driving the ambulance explained that a brain hemorrhage patient was on board at the time, and because it was a long-distance transfer, there were many variables, requiring a quick move. He then sought advice from lawyer Han Moon Chul on whether it was possible to charge the truck driver who deliberately obstructed the ambulance’s path with obstruction of business.

Criminal Punishment is Possible

After reviewing the dashcam video, lawyer Han Moon Chul seemed shocked by the truck’s actions. In response to the question, he explained, “If you don’t yield to an ambulance, a van can be fined 70,000 KRW (US$59) or charged a penalty of 80,000 KRW (US$68).” He added, “If you deliberately don’t yield, you can be criminally punished under the law concerning emergency vehicle emergency rescue.”
