NewJeans added another trophy to their collection at a prestigious American music award ceremony.

According to the list of winners announced by Billboard on the 24th (local time) for the “2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards,” NewJeans (Minji, Hani, Daniel, Haerin, and Hyein) will receive the “Group of the Year Award.” This will mark the first time a K-pop female artist has won this category. NewJeans is scheduled to attend the ceremony at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, USA, on March 6.

The “Billboard Women in Music Awards,” which began in 2007, is a ceremony that honors the leading female artists, creators, producers, and executives who have had a significant impact on the music industry in the year. This year, global top female artists such as Maren Morris, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, and Tems were selected as winners in each category. Meanwhile, NewJeans, the only K-pop female artist, has proven their global status by standing shoulder-to-shoulder with these artists.

NewJeans dominated the global music market in 2023. After making their debut with their second EP, *Get Up*, on August 5, 2023, they were the first K-pop group to reach the top of the US Billboard major album chart, “Billboard 200,” in the shortest amount of time (1 year). The album stayed on this chart for 26 consecutive weeks, setting a new record for the longest time on the chart by a K-pop girl group.

In addition, NewJeans demonstrated incredible power by placing five songs (“OMG,” “Ditto,” “Super Shy,” “ETA,” and “Cool With You”) on the Billboard’s main song chart, “Hot 100,” last year alone. Thanks to these achievements, NewJeans won the “Top Global K-pop Artist” at the “Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs),” one of the three major music awards in the US, and became the first K-pop girl group to perform there.
