Kim Jong Un has inspected military training for two consecutive days. It is interpreted as a countermeasure against the regular US-Korea joint training Shield of Freedom that started this week.

The North Korean Central News Agency reported on the 8th, “Chairman Kim guided the artillery fire drills of the Korean People’s Army’s combined units on the 7th.” The agency said, “The training involved long-range artillery near the borderline, which is performing a significant military task of deterring war by keeping the enemy’s capital within striking range.”

On the day, Chairman Kim stated, “All artillery units should further strengthen their stable combat mobilization readiness to seize the initiative with ruthless and quick strikes at the moment of entering actual combat.”

He emphasized, “We need to continuously strengthen the power of artillery, which is the pride and foundation of our army, by organizing and conducting more practical operation training to enhance the combat power of artillery extraordinarily.”

On the 6th, Chairman Kim visited a key operational training base in the western district and personally guided the training by taking a shooting position in a leather jacket. This represents a countermeasure against the US-Korea joint training that started on the 4th. However, experts suggest North Korea controls the level by not directly provocating. It is analyzed that this is considering the situation on the Korean Peninsula, such as the mention of the interim measures of the United States on the North Korean nuclear issues, the possibility of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to North Korea, and signs of dialogue between North Korea and Japan.
