Tim Cook hints at Vision Pro launch in China
Can it overcome Apple’s sluggish sales?

Apple appears set to launch its virtual reality device, ‘Vision Pro,’ in China sometime this year.

On the 25th (local time), CNBC reported that Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, confirmed in a video from China’s state-run CCTV that the Vision Pro would be launched in China this year.

CNBC explained that if Vision Pro were launched in China, it would compete with similar products like ‘Pico’ from ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.

According to IT-specialized media outlets such as MacObserver, the industry expects Vision Pro’s sales to record between 350,000 and 400,000 units in its first year of launch. Some predict that next year’s sales could range from 1 million to as many as 1.4 million units. IT media outlet MacRumors reported that Apple is localizing Vision Pro for official launches in Europe, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Korea.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg evaluated that despite being Apple’s first new product line in nearly a decade, Vision Pro has failed to create as much buzz as expected.

Many user reviews suggest that the device is too heavy to wear on the face, and the image quality does not meet expectations, making it not worth the price. The launch price in the U.S. was $3,499 (equivalent to about 4.69 million won). Bloomberg commented, “Vision Pro will show no signs of being a real revenue driver for at least the next year and more.”
