Chinese Fishermen Missing Following Collision with Panamanian Ship

On the morning of the 3rd, a collision between a Panamanian container ship and a Chinese fishing vessel occurred about 25 miles off the coast of southern Hainan Province in China, resulting in eight missing fishermen.

China Central Television (CCTV) quoted the Hainan Maritime Search and Rescue Center as saying that at around 12:15 a.m. local time, the Panamanian container ship SITC Danang and the Chinese fishing vessel ‘Wen’an Ao 36062’ collided in the waters about 25 miles away from Yinggehai in Ledong Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province.

CCTV reported that the fishing vessel sank due to the accident, and the eight people on board fell into the water and went missing.

The authorities in Hainan were informed about the accident at approximately 1:50 a.m. They quickly organized search operations with military and police vessels and civilian aircraft to locate the missing persons. Despite their best efforts, the individuals were not found until around 8 p.m. on the same day, as reported by CCTV.
