Controversy is brewing over detecting the mold toxin Deoxynivalenol (DON) in Harbin beer from China.

According to test results from the Hong Kong Consumer Council, this toxin was detected in Harbin’s Maidao beer but not in 29 other varieties of beer.

This toxin can develop during the grains’ fermentation process. While the detected concentration was below Chinese standards, prolonged consumption in large amounts could pose health risks.

Harbin Beer has clarified that the product in question is only sold on the Chinese mainland, leading to ongoing consumer concerns and criticism.
