Apple is expanding the service area of its online streaming service, Apple TV Plus.
The New York Times (NYT) reported on April 22 that the International Football Federation (FIFA) has almost finished negotiations with Apple for the global TV broadcasting rights of the new FIFA Club World Cup for a month.
According to insiders, Apple’s streaming contract could be announced as early as this month and is expected to be valued at approximately $1 billion, a quarter of the $4 billion initially estimated by FIFA.
This agreement is expected to secure a favorable position for Apple’s streaming business in the competition among streaming service providers to secure rights to widely watched sports events.
This will be FIFA’s first agreement to a single global contract, though it is unclear whether the deal includes free broadcasting rights.

The tournament, composed of 32 teams, will take place between June 15 and July 13 next year.
Apple is expected to increase TV Plus subscribers and advertising revenue through FIFA broadcast rights.
