CNN reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing, China for a state visit on the 16th.
This visit is Putin’s first overseas trip since the start of his fifth term in power. CNN pointed out, “Despite friction with the West, China and Russia are deepening their relations.”
Putin arrived in Beijing just hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he would postpone all overseas trips to defend against Russia’s aggression in the northeastern region of Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russia and China have strengthened their diplomatic, trade, and security relations. It is expected that President Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping will mainly discuss the Russia-Ukraine war, the Israel-Hamas war, trade, security, and energy at their summit.
During his two-day visit to China, President Putin plans to visit two cities, Beijing and Harbin. The two leaders are also expected to attend the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between their countries and the opening ceremony of the Year of Culture.
