A 60-year-old woman, Alejandra Rodriguez, was crowned with the “best face” title at the Miss Universe Buenos Aires competition last month. Rodriguez’s victory marks a notable achievement in the local Miss Universe event.
According to AP News, on the 26th, Rodriguez did not win the Miss Universe Argentina competition held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the day before. However, she did receive the trophy for the “best face” category. Rodriguez, a lawyer and journalist, gained global attention when she was selected as Miss Buenos Aires, a local preliminary for Miss Universe Argentina, last April.
On the day of the competition, she competed against other contestants in a red cocktail dress with a slit, a green one-piece swimsuit, and a blue dress.
Following the conclusion of the competition, Rodriguez stated, “This is the first step towards change,” expressing her hope that “my challenge will be a turning point.” She added, “I don’t think pursuing external beauty is wrong. However, the meaning of external beauty should be expanded.”
Rodriguez could participate in this competition because the previous age limit had been abolished. Until now, only women between 18 and 28 could participate in Miss Universe. However, this year, the age limit was abolished, and the competition was opened to pregnant women, married women, divorcees, and transgender individuals.
Rodriguez expressed her excitement about the expanding boundaries in the competition, noting that it included participants who were 37 and 40 years old and mothers—something she described as unimaginable in the past.
The crown in this competition went to Magali Benejam, a 29-year-old actress and model from Cordoba. Previously, she would not have qualified due to age restrictions. Expressing her excitement, Benejam stated, “The competition was not easy. I’m grateful to be standing here.” She is set to represent her region at the global Miss Universe competition in Mexico this September.
