Russian Children to Experience North Korean Camp Life

According to state-run TASS and RIA Novosti reports on the 29th, Russia plans to send its children to North Korea next month for summer vacation.

Grigory Gurov,  head of Russia’s pro-Kremlin youth group Movement of the First, announced plans for an exchange program with North Korea. He said they plan to send Russian children to the North Korean Songdowon summer camp from July 24th to August 2nd.

Songdowon International Children’s Camp is the largest camping site in North Korea, located in Gangwon Province. Gurov added that Songdowon is very much alike to Artek and other Russian children’s camps. The European Union has sanctioned Artek for re-educating Ukrainian children.

According to local media, recruitment for the visiting group is ongoing, and many children have expressed their interest in going to North Korea.

Previously, on the 25th, it was announced that a passenger train connecting Russia’s Vladivostok and North Korea’s Naseon would open in July. Oleg Kozhemyako, governor of Primorsky Krai, suggested sending children from both countries on trips to each other’s nations.

After North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to North Korea, the two countries strengthened their relationship by signing a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement.
