The U.S. government has issued a warning that it will take a strong response regarding the deployment of North Korean troops in the Ukraine war.

According to reports from AFP and others, Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Wednesday during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Brussels, Belgium, that “now of DPRK North Korean forces injected into the battle and now quite literally in combat, which demands and will get a firm response.”

Blinken emphasized, “We see increasingly the indivisibility of security between and among these different theaters – the Euro-Atlantic theater, the Indo-Pacific theater, the Middle East – and we must find ways to work ever more closely together.” He also reassured that President Joe Biden would continue to strengthen alliances, just as he had done over the past four years, ensuring that support for Ukraine would not wane during the remainder of the Biden administration.

The U.S. State Department previously confirmed on Tuesday that North Korean troops deployed to southwestern Russia’s Kursk region have begun participating in combat against Ukrainian forces.

Vedant Patel, the State Department’s principal deputy spokesperson, stated during a regular briefing, “Today I can confirm that over 10,000 DPRK soldiers have been sent to eastern Russia, and most of them have moved to the far western Kursk Oblast, where they have begun engaging in combat operations with Russian forces.”

The Biden administration is acting quickly to ensure that NATO unity and support for Ukraine remain unaffected as Donald Trump’s inauguration approaches in just over two months. A strong push is to expedite the delivery of already secured security assistance to Ukraine.

Trump has expressed skepticism about support for Ukraine and advocates for a swift ceasefire.
