On Wednesday morning, General Kim Myung Soo, Chairman of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), spoke with General Jennie Carignan, Canada’s Chief of the Defense Staff. The JCS reported that this was their second discussion since August.

The two military leaders exchanged views on the security landscape of the Korean Peninsula and global security issues. They concurred on broadening cooperation across various domains to enhance peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the Indo-Pacific region.

Kim emphasized the stability of the security situation and defense readiness on the Korean Peninsula. He called for active engagement and support in strengthening military cooperation between South Korea and Canada.

Carignan expressed concern over the recent bolstering of military ties between North Korea and Russia, viewing it as a global issue with particular implications for the Korean Peninsula. She underscored the critical importance of bilateral military cooperation in these uncertain times.
