Former Intel Chief Drops Bombshell: Yoon’s Fury Over Marine’s Death Revealed!

Cho Tae-yong appears at special counsel Lee Myeong-hyeon]Former National Intelligence Service Director Cho Tae-yong has admitted that former President Yoon Suk Yeol erupted in anger when briefed on the preliminary findings of a Marine Corps investigation into a Marine’s death in 2023, reversing his years-long denial, according to legal sources on Wednesday.

Cho made this admission during questioning by special counsel Lee Myeong-hyun’s team on Tuesday. He appeared as a suspect in the case involving allegations of government interference in the Marine Corps’ investigation into the death of Cpl. Chae Su-geun in July 2023, the sources reported.

Chae was swept away by an overflowing stream while on a search mission for victims of heavy rainfall.

Cho was one of the high-ranking officials present at a meeting that month when Yoon allegedly erupted in anger upon hearing that the preliminary investigation had identified a senior Marine commander as responsible for Chae’s death.

The case centers on claims that the investigation results were subsequently altered to exonerate the initial suspects.

In August 2023, Cho had previously asserted in the National Assembly that the meeting did not include a briefing on Chae’s death and denied that Yoon had erupted in anger.

With Cho’s recent admission, four of the seven attendees at the meeting have now confirmed Yoon’s alleged outburst during questioning. The special counsel team plans to interrogate the remaining three participants in the near future. (Yonhap)
