10 Surprising Causes of Autumn Hair Loss

daily Views

The season of hair loss has returned. In reality, hair is greatly affected by the weather, and in autumn, the dry atmosphere and buildup of dead skin cells on the scalp can cause hair to fall out more. While hair loss is a natural phenomenon, it may be a sign of baldness if it falls out excessively. Let’s learn how seasonal hair loss differs from general hair loss and how to protect our precious hair.

Season of Hair Loss

Autumn has less sunlight than summer, and the secretion of the male hormone testosterone can temporarily increase. This hormone inhibits hair growth and causes hair to fall out. The large temperature difference in autumn can disrupt the balance of oil and moisture on the scalp, leading to the buildup of dead skin cells. Neglecting scalp care during the summer due to sweat, sebum, and UV rays can also increase hair loss in autumn.

More Hair Shedding is Normal in Autumn

It is natural for hair to fall out more in autumn, and there is no need to worry too much. Hair goes through the phases of growth, rest, and shedding, and in autumn, many hair strands enter the resting phase. However, if more than 100 hairs fall out and the hair becomes thinner, or if pulling on a strand results in more than 10 hairs coming out, it may be a sign of baldness, and it is recommended to seek medical attention.

Maintaining a Clean Scalp is Key

Unclean scalp can cause inflammation, which can lead to hair loss. It is recommended to thoroughly rinse the hair with lukewarm water once a day in the evening. It is better to gently press the hair with a towel instead of rubbing it vigorously when drying it. Additionally, it is recommended to dry the hair with natural or cool air rather than hot air.

Nourish Your Hair to Prevent Hair Loss

Antioxidants found in vegetables and fruits can help prevent hair loss. Protein-rich foods such as beans and tofu also prevent hair loss, and trace elements like zinc and iron help with hair growth, so taking a comprehensive vitamin supplement is good. Consuming oily foods can hinder blood circulation and prevent proper nutrition supply to the scalp, which can lead to hair loss.

Choose the Right Shampoo for Your Scalp

Using shampoo that suits your scalp is also essential. If the scalp is oily, a shampoo with high cleansing power and less conditioner is preferred, while for dry scalp and damaged hair, a shampoo with low cleansing power and relatively more conditioner is recommended.

Scalp Massage for Hair Growth

Scalp massage can also help with hair growth. Massaging the scalp activates blood circulation, which improves nutrient supply. When blood circulation is improved, cell movement becomes more active, which aids in hair growth. Stretching exercises that relax the shoulder muscles, which help the blood flow to the scalp, are also recommended.

Avoid Overusing Hair Ties

Tying the hair once a day is sufficient. Excessive shampooing can cause the scalp to become dry due to a lack of sebum, and it is recommended to shampoo in the evening and sleep with thoroughly dried hair. However, leaving the hair tied up for several days can accumulate impurities and pollutants, which can block the hair follicles and worsen hair loss. Therefore, it is more important to clean the hair thoroughly.

Avoid Wearing Hats for Too Long

Wearing hats helps maintain body temperature and protects the scalp and hair from cold winds and UV rays. However, wearing hats indoors for an extended period can cause sweating and moisture, harming scalp health. If you frequently wear hats, check the cleanliness of the inside of the hat and wash it regularly.

Consult a Professional If It’s Not Seasonal Hair Loss

However, if hair falls out excessively, it may not be seasonal hair loss but a medical condition symptom. Hair loss requires an accurate diagnosis and prompt identification of the cause for effective treatment. Considering the numerous types and causes of hair loss, it is crucial not simply to attribute it to seasonal hair loss. You must visit a hospital for a proper diagnosis if you notice thinning or lighter hair color.

Taking Medication is the Most Effective Method

If you want to expect the effects of hair loss treatment, taking oral medication is the most effective method. Over-the-counter hair loss shampoos do not have the effect of regrowing or thickening hair, which is why they cannot use the term “hair growth” in their product descriptions. Hair loss shampoos can only slow down the progression of hair loss. If you want hair growth, it is best to visit a hospital and get a prescription for medication. Hair transplantation can be considered an alternative if hair loss medication is ineffective.
