Winter is the season for sweet potatoes
All you need is a microwave
There is no better substitute for rice during the winter than sweet potatoes. I remember having a hot cup of milk with a sweet potato for a quick and easy breakfast. So, I bought a bunch at the store.
However, boiling sweet potatoes can be a hassle. Moreover, if stored improperly, they can sprout and rot like potatoes, which requires some attention.
So, this time, I brought a super easy way to boil sweet potatoes using a microwave. Plus, I’ve included a bonus tip on how to store sweet potatoes without spoiling them during the winter. Hurry up and enjoy delicious sweet potatoes this winter!
Today’s materials:
- paper foil
- newspaper
- sweet potato
Let’s start with how to steam using a microwave. The materials are very simple. You just need paper foil, newspaper, and sweet potatoes. Please wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly under running water.
By the way, many people microwave sweet potatoes in a plastic bag, but this method can dry out the sweet potatoes. If you want moist sweet potatoes, prepare paper foil and newspaper!
Do not dry the washed sweet potatoes, and wrap them as they are in paper foil.
For those of you who are thinking of using kitchen towels instead of paper foil, absolutely not! If you microwave the sweet potatoes wrapped in kitchen towels, they will stick to the sweet potato skin, and peeling them off will be very troublesome. Be careful!
Now, double-wrap the sweet potato wrapped in paper foil with newspaper. Wrapping the sweet potato in layers prevents the moisture from evaporating when microwaving the sweet potato.
The next STEP is to put the wrapped sweet potato in a container and spray it with water to moisten it.
Once you’ve sprayed the water, put it in a bowl and microwave it. The key point here is to microwave it in 2-3 intervals.
The starch in sweet potatoes becomes sweet when cooked at a low temperature for a long time, so you can make sweet potatoes twice as sweet by microwaving them in intervals rather than setting them for 6-7 minutes at once.
Here’s another small tip for making moist sweet potatoes~ Check the newspaper wrapping every 2-3 minutes and replenish the moisture with a sprayer. It’s an ambitious Moment to eat perfectly moist sweet potatoes.
Microwave it 3 times in 2-3 minute intervals, and voila! Moist sweet potato is ready. Can you believe that this was made in a microwave? Let’s add some hearty sweet potatoes to our busy mornings this winter~
BONUS TIP Sweet Potato Storage Method
Next is the method of storing sweet potatoes in winter. If you follow the honey tip that contains 10 years of know-how from Salim Bro, you can keep a lot at once and eat it conveniently throughout the winter. Concentrate! The bonus honey tip begins.
The first tip is to pick out the scratched sweet potatoes if you bought a box. Sweet potatoes have thin skins and are vulnerable to moisture, so they rot quickly if wet.
If there is even one scratched sweet potato in the box, the moisture from the wound can rot all the other healthy sweet potatoes, so please pick out the injured ones first when you buy sweet potatoes!
The second tip is to spread the sweet potatoes on a newspaper and let them dry at room temperature for about a week. The moisture of the sweet potatoes will evaporate, and during the drying time, the starch in the sweet potatoes will turn into sugar. In other words, if you dry them for a week, you can eat sweeter sweet potatoes.
The last tip is to store the sweet potatoes in a well-ventilated box without overlapping, with several layers of newspaper. It’s even better if the box has holes. If there are no holes, please make them yourself.
Again, sweet potatoes are vulnerable to moisture, so they need to be stored without humidity. They are also sensitive to temperature, so it’s important to store them in a place where the temperature doesn’t change much.
