The crowning glory of food is
A beautiful sunny-side-up egg
The secret to hotel-style fried eggs
What do you think is the final touch to any dish? It’s got to be a beautifully cooked sunny-side-up egg. Even if the rest of the meal is a disaster, a pretty fried egg on top can make it look delicious.
Sometimes, when I go on a staycation and order fried rice, there’s a gently placed fried egg on top. It’s so pretty that it doubles the pleasure of looking at it and eating it. Also, when you request a sunny-side-up at a breakfast buffet and eat that one fried egg, it feels like you’re enjoying your staycation.
But why do the fried eggs I make at home always look ugly? Sob sob. I thought I was pretty skilled in housekeeping and had over 10 years of experience living alone, but I couldn’t get the fried eggs to look as pretty as those in hotels.
But! There is a specific way to make fried eggs in hotels. Did you guys know that? It’s a slight difference, making the eggs look moist and beautiful. You can’t make it if you don’t know, but there’s a secret to producing beautiful sunny-side-up eggs in just 1 minute!
So today, I will introduce the secrets to making hotel-style sunny-side-up eggs. There are many simple but easy-to-miss tips. If you miss even one, the chance of getting an ugly fried egg increases, so please read carefully. Let’s get started.
When you guys usually make fried eggs, don’t you crack the egg directly into a heated pan? Then, no matter how careful you are, the egg spreads out. Also, trying to shape the egg can cause it to clump, or, worse, the yolk can break.
Today, instead of a pan, crack the egg into a dish first. Then, drain the water that was inside the eggshell. If you drain it, the yolk and the egg’s membrane might drain out together, so use a fork or your hand to carefully drain it so that the yolk and the white don’t drain out.
Then, spread the cooking oil around the heated frying pan. You need to apply the cooking oil before the pan gets too hot. If the oil exceeds its flash point, it can flare up and become dangerous.
Wipe the pan with a kitchen towel to ensure the cooking oil is evenly spread. Ensure the oil is spread adequately so the fried egg doesn’t stick!
The most crucial tip when frying is maintaining a balanced temperature in the pan! The pan should not be too hot or cold, and the center and sides of the pan must be evenly heated.
Usually, the heat is located in the center, so the center of the pan tends to be hotter, right? Therefore, you need to cool the center of the pan on a wet towel for a while. Balance the temperature of the pan.
Now, carefully pour the egg into the pan. Pour it in so the bowl is as level with the pan as possible. I had to tilt the bowl quite a bit because the opening of my bowl was high, but you guys should prepare a flat dish.
After carefully landing the egg in the pan, use the dish to shape the egg white. The critical point here is to ‘leave it as it is.’ When the egg white is exposed to heat, it turns white and takes shape, so it’s vital to shape it with the dish quickly.
When you think the white has taken shape, gently push the yolk into the center with a spoon. Hold it in shape for 3-4 seconds, and the yolk will stay beautifully in place!
Finally, the most important tip! When you think the egg white is somewhat cooked, pour water into the pan. Not too much, just enough to slightly wet the pan. Then, close the lid and steam the egg like cooking it.
Guys, have you ever burnt the bottom of the sunny-side-up trying to cook the top part as well? Or have you failed because you tried to cook the yolk, and it bursts or clumped together? This method allows you to cook the yolk with hot steam to keep the shape and cook it evenly.
It’s done! Goodbye to the Housekeeping Brother who always broke the egg. Now I can make a beautiful sunny-side-up egg.
Guys, remember this method and try making a beautiful fried egg with a hotel buffet vibe. Let’s all walk the path of beautiful fried eggs.
