① Vietnam’s Local Vacation Destination: Dalat
As the demand for overseas travel is revitalizing, Dalat, Vietnam, has been named the top travel destination. Global travel marketplace Skyscanner has announced that the popularity of Dalat is expected to rise even more. The search volume for Dalat exploded by about 3000% year-on-year after being introduced on the variety show I Live Alone.
Furthermore, the fact that the price of flights to Dalat has halved compared to the previous year also had a significant impact. Skyscanner stated, “Korean tourists regard hotel costs and airfare as the most important factors when choosing a travel destination.”
Dalat, Vietnam, is the most popular travel destination among the locals. It is also a popular honeymoon destination for locals.
The reason why Dalat is popular among locals is due to its cool weather. Located at an altitude of around 1,500m (approx. 4921 feet) on a plateau, Dalat boasts an average annual temperature of about 20 degrees Celsius (approx. 68 degrees Fahrenheit), similar to spring. That’s why Dalat is also called the ‘City of Spring.’ In the hot climate of Vietnam, Dalat is an excellent place, which is why it is popular among locals.
Dalat was developed as a resort city under the leadership of the French colonial government. After the first hotel was built in 1907, development began in earnest. Dalat was popular as a resort for French administrators and Vietnamese upper classes. For this reason, compared to other cities in Vietnam, there are many buildings with a more exotic atmosphere. With various hotels and resorts and numerous French-style villas, Dalat is a great place to relax. It is a place that offers a variety of attractions even to locals, even though it is in Vietnam.
② Dalat’s Exotic Atmosphere
In the center of Dalat is ‘Suon Huong Lake’. The pine tree path in the center of the lake is famous. Walking around the lake, you can enjoy the atmosphere of downtown Dalat. Despite being in the city center, it is a peaceful and impressive place.
Another popular place to visit downtown Dalat is the ‘Dalat Railway Station,’ influenced by French architectural style. The combination of Western architecture and Eastern charm captivates the eyes of tourists. Tourists often stop to take photos with the train station as a backdrop. The entrance fee to the train station is between $0.08 – $0.17, allowing you to explore the inside of the station.
Like the train station, ‘Dalat Cathedral’ is also a building that retains traces of France. At the top of the cathedral is a cockerel-shaped statue. The pink-hued Dalat Cathedral is also a famous landmark here.
③ Popular Photo Zones
Dalat has many attractions that are popular as photo zones among tourists. Among them, the most famous is the ‘Crazy House’ in Dalat, a building created by Dang Viet Nga, the daughter of Vietnam’s Prime Minister, who is called the Gaudi of Vietnam. The original name of the place was ‘Fairy Tale House,’ meaning a house from a fairy tale. However, it became famous for its unique architecture and started being called ‘Crazy House.’
It is considered one of Vietnam’s representative attractions and is visited by many tourists. Alos, it is designed to mimic the image of a forest and is composed of a vibrant atmosphere. It has been under construction since 1990 and consists of trick art, a complex interior, and a maze-like structure. While it may seem bizarre, the geometric architecture is a unique feature of this place. The observation deck at Crazy House, which offers a panoramic view of downtown Dalat, is also famous.
‘Valley of Love’ is a travel destination in Dalat where you can encounter the natural scenery of Dalat. There are various attractions in the large lake and garden, from a maze park to wax dolls and flower gardens. It’s a great place to spend time. Since the park is large, when it’s hard to look around everywhere, you can comfortably tour the park by taking a free shuttle car. There are many good places to take pictures, making it a great place to capture memorable photos.
You can also cross the ‘Eung Anh Tong’ glass bridge, a tourist bridge that connects the Valley of Love and the Hill of Tong. As the fourth glass bridge built in Vietnam, it gives the feeling of crossing the sky. The bridge is built at a height of 100m (approx. 328 feet), allowing you to enjoy the view of central Dalat and Lang Biang Mountain at a glance. It’s a place where you can enjoy the open scenery, but it’s also thrilling. Due to its height, visitors must fill out a health questionnaire before crossing the glass bridge. It is restricted to older people, children, and those with weak hearts.
