The northern Italian city of Milan has imposed a complete ban on food and drink takeouts near Porta Venezia to prevent noise pollution that occurs late in the evening.

The ban includes takeout food and drinks from restaurants and cafes, eating at restaurants with outdoor tables, and even purchasing drinks from vending machines.

According to Euronews, the crackdown on nightlife began when residents of the Porta Venezia area, tired of late-night noise pollution, lodged complaints with officials.

The area around Porta Venezia, a nightlife hotspot, became chaotic, with visitors flocking to buy drinks and late-night snacks, leading to persistent crime and noise issues.

The restrictions are in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekdays and from 1:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekends. The measures are temporary until the 19th, but there is a possibility of an extension.

The Mayor of Milan stated, “I don’t believe in the concept of a city that never sleeps,” adding, “Just like people, cities also need rest time.”
