① The Iconic Night View in Hongya Cave

Chongqing, a travel destination in China, is known for its warm winters and early arrival of spring. It’s about a 3-hour, 30-minute journey, making it a stress-free international travel destination. The best time to visit Chongqing is from October to April. One of the signature attractions in Chongqing is Hongya Cave. This place attracts many travelers who witness its stunning night view, which is also popular on social media.

Hongya Cave exudes a traditional Chinese vibe while also creating an exotic atmosphere. It is primarily renowned as a night-view spot in Chongqing. Located next to the Yangtze River, its grand scale is truly impressive.

This place is a reconstruction of the traditional houses of the Miao ethnic group. 2006, the Chongqing government invested about US$556 million to create this landmark. Despite the massive budget, it has become a symbol of Chongqing. Currently, it has transformed into a complex shopping center.

Hongya Cave has received a national 3A tourist site rating. The building stands on a cliff at the confluence of the Jialing and Yangtze rivers. It was uniquely built, with roads passing through the first and 11th floors due to its traditional construction method suitable for mountainous regions. Chongqing, being a mountainous and cliff-rich area, had difficulties building structures. Thus, they adopted creating levels on the sloping terrain to build houses.

Hongya Cave consists of 13 floors in total. The first floor houses various shops and snack streets. The second floor has traditional shops like antique stores. Floors five to ten comprise multiple restaurants, with floors seven and eight comprising a five-star hotel. They designed the 11th floor as a city balcony.

In Hongya Cave, you can also visit a café with a great view overlooking the river. It’s a great place to spend the whole day eating, shopping, and enjoying the view.

② The Real-life Version of ‘Spirited Away’

Hongya Cave is open 365 days a year without a single day off. Due to the numerous shops inside the building and its complex structure, it can be difficult to find your way around. The total construction area is about 46,000㎡ (approximately 495,140 sq ft), making it an extremely large-scale complex. Therefore, there is always plenty to see and do, even at night.

Hongya Cave is even more beautiful at night than during the day. To truly appreciate its charm, you should visit at night to enjoy the night view. The night view of Hongya Cave, which stands out from afar, emits dazzling lights. The warm lights reflect off the Jialing and Yangtze rivers, evoking even more emotion. The night view of Hongya Cave alone is worth a visit to Chongqing.

The night view of Hongya Cave is also famous as the real-life version of the animation Spirited Away. You can genuinely feel as if the scenes from the animation have come to life.

Hongya Cave and the surrounding night view are also fantastic. In front of Hongya Cave is the Yangtze River Bridge. The night view of the bridge is also not to be missed. If you walk along the promenade of the Yangtze River, you can enjoy the city’s night view along with Hongya Cave. The night view from Hongya Cave is also a spectacular sight. You can take a picture-perfect night view from anywhere.

Many tourists always visit this place, so even on weekdays, it is crowded with people. Too many people walking around can be challenging so you may experience a massive crowd. Since it’s always busy no matter when you visit, it’s good to remember this when planning your visit.

Visitors have responded with comments such as “the best place to see the night view,” “the night view of Hongya Cave is even more beautiful from across the river,” “the best night view that brings emotion just by looking at it,” and “the crowd was massive, but it felt like a place straight out of an animation.”

③ The Perfect Course to Enjoy the Sunset

Chongqing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in China are known for their beautiful night views. It’s also a popular travel destination among locals. In addition to Hongya Cave, ‘Nanshan Ikeshu Lookout’ is another excellent place to enjoy the night view in Chongqing.

This place is a must-visit spot for travelers in Chongqing. Despite being crowded with countless tourists, there is no place as beautiful for night views as this one.

Nanshan Ikeshu Lookout became famous as a tourist spot after they built a modern lookout in July 2003. From the lookout located halfway up Nanshan, you can witness the dazzling night view of Chongqing.
