Shampoo and Conditioner: 9 Surprising Household Hacks You Need to Try

daily Views

Shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and soap are indispensable household items. When shopping at large discount stores or ordering online, it’s common to end up with surplus quantities due to bulk purchases. However, there are times when these products are not completely used up or expire. Instead of throwing them away, why not repurpose them for other uses?

Cleaning Mirrors

Using conditioner to clean mirrors or glass can effectively remove smudges and leave a coating that prevents dust from sticking. Remember to use a dry towel, not a wet one, to apply the conditioner. For bathroom mirrors, which fog up due to high humidity, cleaning with conditioner prevents moisture build-up.

Removing Limescale in the Bathtub

Limescale stains on sinks and countertops can be annoying. Mixing conditioner with hot water, then diluting it with cold water, and spraying it on can effectively clean these stubborn stains. This makes it excellent for cleaning limescale in kitchens and bathrooms.

Preventing Static Electricity

Conditioner is well-known for its ability to prevent hair static during winter. It can also prevent static on other items. Wiping items down with a clean towel dabbed in conditioner can stop static cling. It can also serve as a substitute for fabric softener to prevent static in clothes.

Restoring Shrunken Clothes

Clothes, especially knits, can shrink if washed incorrectly, making them unwearable. Soaking shrunken clothes in lukewarm water mixed with conditioner can help restore them to their original size. After soaking for 15-20 minutes, stretch the clothes by hand and lay them flat to dry.

Eliminating Wood Furniture Odor

New wood furniture often has a distinct woody smell, which can become musty if the furniture absorbs moisture during the rainy season. Wiping the furniture with a cloth slightly dampened with conditioner can leave a pleasant scent and reduce mustiness.

Unclogging Toilets

If the toilet is clogged and there’s no plunger available, don’t panic. Squirt shampoo into the toilet, let it sit for about 10 minutes, then flush. The water should clear the blockage as if it was never there.

Preventing Glasses from Fogging Up

Those wearing glasses often experience fogging up, especially when entering a warm indoor area from the cold outside or wearing a mask. Applying a little conditioner to the glasses can prevent fogging and keep the lenses clean.

Removing Stains from Shirts

Sweat and oils can leave yellow stains on clothing. Try soaking the stained clothes in water mixed with baking soda and shampoo. Shampoo can clean clothes better than some detergents. After soaking, scrub gently with a washing brush and launder again for a clean finish.

Removing Pilling from Clothes

Pilling on frequently worn knit garments during winter can be a problem. Removing pills incorrectly can damage the fabric. Using conditioner can make the removal process smoother. Spray a mixture of water and conditioner on the garment and gently scrape off the pills with a razor. The conditioner acts as a lubricant, making the pills easier to remove cleanly.

Cleaning Electronic Devices

Dust is more visible on dark-colored electronic appliances, necessitating frequent cleaning. Using conditioners to clean these appliances can help prevent static electricity and reduce dust accumulation. Be extra careful when cleaning screens like TVs and monitors with conditioner!
