As we might know, heat continues during summer, so managing tire pressure is important. This article will introduce the appropriate tire pressure values and management methods.

Summer is a time when tire pressure becomes more important in vehicle maintenance. First, let’s look at the appropriate tire pressure values for summer. The appropriate value for tire pressure in summer may vary depending on the vehicle and tire type. The manufacturer’s recommended air pressure is indicated on a label affixed to the vehicle’s driver’s door frame, inside the glove box, or the fuel filler cap.

Most passenger vehicle tire pressures are generally recommended to be set within 32 to 35 psi (pounds per square inch). However, since tire air pressure may naturally increase in the summer, it is better to consider this and set it to a slightly lower value. This prevents the tire from over-inflating and wearing out or deteriorating performance as the air pressure increases.

Once we have set our tire pressure to an appropriate level, let’s look at how to manage it. Managing tire pressure in summer is important in optimizing tire performance and driving safely. Tire air pressure may naturally rise due to hot weather, so appropriate adjustments are necessary to suit seasonal changes.

The first management is measuring the appropriate air pressure level. Measuring tire air pressure when the tire is cold is the most accurate. This usually happens early in the morning or when the vehicle has not been driven for a long time. If we measure the tire when it is hot, the air pressure may appear higher than it is, so it is crucial to measure when the tire is cold to prevent errors. After measuring the air pressure, let’s adjust it to the recommended value. Recommended levels can be found in the vehicle’s manual on the driver’s door frame label or inside the fuel filler cap.

The second management is inspection. It is a good idea to check the air pressure about once a week during the summer. This is because air pressure can suddenly change due to high temperatures. If the air pressure is too high, the center of the tire may be excessively worn, and if the air pressure is too low, both edges of the tire may wear out quickly, so maintaining appropriate air pressure is very important. When adjusting air pressure, it is essential to use an air pressure gauge to obtain accurate measurements. Digital air pressure gauges, readily available on the market, are easy to use and provide reasonably accurate readings. After adjusting the air pressure, please close the tire valve cap to prevent air from leaking.

Finally, the third management is a general tire inspection. The overall condition of tires should also be checked regularly. It is a good idea to check whether the tire pattern is worn evenly and whether there are any foreign substances or damaged areas, and if necessary, have it inspected and repaired by a specialist. We can manage our tire pressure in the summer through the above management methods, so check it to ensure safe driving.
