Takeout Ban Shuts Down Late-Night Buzz in Milan

Daniel Kim Views

The northern Italian city of Milan has imposed a complete ban on takeout food and beverages near Porta Venezia to prevent noise pollution that occurs late in the evening.

The ban includes takeout beverages and food from restaurants and cafes, dining at outdoor tables, and purchasing drinks from vending machines.

Euronews reports that the crackdown on nighttime street activity in the Porta Venezia area began after residents, fed up with late-night noise pollution, filed complaints with local officials.

The area around Porta Venezia, famous for its nightlife, became increasingly noisy as visitors crowded in to buy drinks and late-night snacks. Crime and noise became constant issues.

The restriction hours are from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekdays and from 1:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekends. This temporary measure is in effect until June 19 but may be extended.

The mayor of Milan said, “I do not believe in the concept of a city that never sleeps,” adding that “like people, cities also need time to rest.”.
