According to The Bali Times, the Bali Regional People’s Legislative Council (DPRD) has proposed increasing the tourist tax from 150,000 rupiahs (approx. $10.50) to 750,000 rupiahs (approx. $52.50) through a plenary session.

Councilor Gede Komang Kresna Budi said, “There has been an increase in foreign tourists who do not respect local norms in recent months,” and added, “By raising the tourist tax, we can reduce the problems caused by unruly tourists.”

Furthermore, Budi stated, “The current tourist tax of 150,000 rupiahs (approx. $10.50) makes Bali seem like a marked-down destination” and conveyed, “By shooting up the tourist tax five-fold, we can prevent tourists from perceiving Bali as a low-priced vacation spot.”

To address the issue of overtourism, Bali has been imposing a tourist tax of 150,000 rupiahs (approximately $10.50) on island visitors since February 14.

Foreign tourists entering Bali must pay the tourist tax using a credit card through the Love Bali app or website (lovebali.baliprov.go.id). Once the payment is completed, a QR code is issued, and proof of payment is required upon entering Bali’s airport.
