Apple’s iPhone 16 series is expected to see changes in the Face ID system.
On July 9, IT media 9to5Mac cited Taiwan’s IT media DigiTimes and reported that Apple’s Face ID system for the iPhone 16 series to be unveiled this fall might change.
According to the report, this news was first relayed by IT media MacRumors, which cited a report by the Telegraph. The Telegraph reported in May that semiconductor company Coherent, which operates one of the U.K.’s largest semiconductor factories, is facing closure after its parts supply contract with Apple ended.
The Telegraph reported that Coherent had been manufacturing the Face ID sensor for the iPhone, but Apple stopped ordering due to changes in the iPhone 16 design. 9to5Mac reported that this could affect not only Coherent but also other suppliers in Apple’s supply chain.
Concerning this, DigiTimes recently released additional information. The iPhone’s Face ID system consists of various sensors and cameras. The related parts were supplied from the Newton Aycliffe factory in the past. According to DigiTimes, due to the design changes of the iPhone 16 series, Apple has stopped orders from this factory.
There is no exact information on what features the iPhone 16 Face ID will include. The Face ID functionality may remain unchanged, or the highly anticipated under-display Face ID system might be implemented, according to 9to5Mac’s report.
Meanwhile, a roundup of recent leaks about the iPhone 16 series suggests that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro will maintain a design similar to their predecessor, the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have slightly larger displays and a new capture button added to all models.
Amid various rumors and speculations, there is a lot of interest from online users about what the Face ID on the iPhone 16 series will look like when it is unveiled this fall.
